LAE serves over 1,100 individuals each year

We help elderly and disabled people who have nowhere else to turn. Many clients are exploited by unscrupulous landlords or lenders. Others face eviction or are victims of abuse. Confronted by a baffling legal system and the inability to afford a lawyer, our assistance is critical in helping to save a residence, avoid a nursing home, or retain rightful benefits.

Economic shifts hit those on fixed incomes especially hard. Social Security income is flat and interest on savings is meager. Meanwhile, housing and health care costs continue to climb. For those struggling on low incomes, legal problems can be devastating. Fortunately, LAE provides free assistance to San Francisco’s most vulnerable.

We rely on your financial contributions to help us advocate for San Francisco’s elderly and disabled. Please help protect the rights and quality of life for those desperately in need of pro bono legal services.

LAE funding

Primary financing for LAE is from the following entities:

  • Office of Aging & Adult Services, Human Services Agency, City & County of San Francisco
  • Office of Economic and Workforce Development, City & County of San Francisco
  • Legal Services Trust Fund, the State Bar of California
  • Equal Access to Justice Fund, the State of California
  • Corporate donations

Our funding has routinely been reduced by budget deficits and cut backs. When these cuts have been severe, LAE has had to limit staff hours and even lay off staff members.

Individual Sponsers

LAE is also sponsored by individual donations. Like many of our clients who struggle financially to make ends meet, LAE depends upon generous contributions from individuals like you so we can continue to advocate on behalf of San Francisco's seniors and younger adults with disabilities. In this age of uncertain government funding, support for LAE from private individuals is more critical than ever.
